Duncan Fairgrieve appeared in an important case before the UK Supreme Court during July 2018. The case, CN & GN v Poole Borough Council, considers an important element of the law of negligence concerning the extent to which local authorities owe a common law duty to protect children from harm. Duncan Fairgrieve was led by Lizanne Gumbel QC, along with other barristers Iain O’Donnell and Jim Duffy. 

The appeal was heard over a day and a half by Lady Hale (President), Lord Reed (Deputy President), Lord Wilson, Lord Hodge and Lady Black.
